  1. If you a marketer or business owner like myself you may find that trading via the internet feels like you're banging your head against a brick wall... Essentially more traffic = more customers so the question is how do you increase traffic? 1. Social Media: I can't stress how much social media has an impact on today's consumer market. With a large proportion of the world glued to their devices and scrolling through their social media accounts. It's a no brainer that you have a captive audience right there! So get socialising and promote your content through your brand's social media accounts. 2. Speed: It is essential to make sure your site is technically optimised! If there is slow loading speeds the bounce rate from your site will rocket. This is achieved through clear structure, limiting file sizes and plugin functionality. 3. Utilise on-page SEO: Most web CMS templates will have a built in utility that enables you to input your meta-tags, page titles and backlinks. SEO is not dead, it will help increase traffic flow to your site with sustained effort. Having a weekly SEO slot in your diary will help keep you up to date and your site optimised as Google and other search engines will regulary update their algorithms. In short keep on top of your SEO. 4. Community: It's all well and good having large volumes of traffic landing on your site but your bounce rate will negatively effect your ranking. The whole point of creating content is, it needs to be informative and enagaging. You need to foster a community who actively respond and discuss content. Therefore, they also need to feel part of this community. Members wanting to develop and nurture the progress of the community is the key to a successful site. 5. Be an active member yourself: You may find that you are visiting sites relevant to your business. So why not comment and discuss yourself? Getting your name heard by providing thoughtful, relevant and insightful comments on blogs and other sites is a sure way of kindling relationships, which are ultimately profitable. 6. Use different media types: Text content is a good way of communicating with your community. However, use of video and images proves useful when attracting new members. If you look at successful community sites such as Rooster Teeth. While predominantly a gaming community, they diversify their content from live action, animation, lets play's to podcasts, news and information. 7. Attend industry conferences: These are particularly useful as they keep you up to date with current market trends and strategies. Myself and Alan regularly attend these as it allows us to upskill and network with other businesses. uUitmately giving us more opportunity to create opportunities, especially in the local area. 8. Internal Link Structure Internal linking structure is just as important as the robustness of your backlinks. When you're creating content, use the opportunity to create relevant links to other content on your site. It helps as part of SEO but optimises the experience for the user. If the user stays and engages with your site you'll find traffic flow will increase tenfold. 9. Search for referral traffic Instead of emploring other websites to link to you. Create content that people want to link to. If you have users regularly linking to your content, you'll find the return will multiply exponentially. For example if you write about something in world news that is relevant to your niche. Informative and insightful content may get linked by some major league sites. 10. Titles, Titles, Titles If you don't write an eye catching title people wont read your content, simple. One skill you will need to aquire is headline writing. Play around with a few ideas that will drive the most traffic through your post. It's so important you master this concept. For example you wouldn't pick up a newspaper without a good headline title. Those are my tips for increasing traffic. Please comment and discuss your own as I'd love to learn and develop myself.

  7. 5 Reasons You Need SEO

Below is five reason why you need SEO for your website or business and is worth the time to invest for the long term. 1. SEO To improve the user experience The main reason of a good SEO strategy is to appeal to both users who are searching and search engines through out all devices. This puts a searcher at the top of mind because you would want to get your website ranked as high as possible, to contain quality, easy to search / navigate and works on all devices such as laptops, desktops and mobiles devices. This improves the user experience and makes it better for the people who are searching to learn more about your website or business. 2 SEO Insights / Expand A great SEO strategy is to analyzing your reports and making adjustments based on what you find. For example, if you’re sharing your content on social media sites, you can check the data on who is interacting with your content, viewing web pages and possibly identify a new demographic you hadn’t previously targeted. You can also look at your organic traffic to see if visitors from nearby cities are looking at your website that you should expand your marketing efforts to include. Using the data from your SEO strategy can provide valuable insights that may just help you expand your website or business. 3 Longer visibility Unlike PPC (Pay per Click) or display advertising campaigns where your budget is likely focused on showing ads on certain days and times, SEO can provide better visibility for your website. So, even if a searcher is looking for products or services similar to yours when your ads aren’t being shown, they can see your website in organic search results or social media pages. 4 Improve ROI Every marketing budget comes down to money. What did you pay for what you got? While PPC does offer instant visibility into where your marketing budget is being spent, it only accesses a fraction of the market available for a specific keyword. Coupling PPC with an SEO strategy allows you to spread out your budget and capture potential customers searching outside of your PPC keyword strategy, which can improve ROI and net you more customers. SEO is a valuable marketing strategy to help you reach marketing goals like attracting new customers, improving the effectiveness of your PPC campaign, and increasing your visibility online. Learn more about SEO on our website. 5. Reputation Online Reputation management goes hand-in-hand with SEO. Statistics show that most customers and visitors trust an online review as much as they would trust a recommendation from a friend. Because of this, search engine algorithms readily show online review sites when users conduct searches. Putting a focus on reputation management efforts can increase your chances of attracting potential customers and help you occupy more spots on Search Engine results.
  8. 4 Steps to Optimizing Your Website

The goal of search engine optimization is to have the search engine spiders not only find your site and pages but also specifically rank the page relevance so that it appears at the top of the search engine results. The process of optimization is not a one-time process but requires maintenance, tuning, and continuous testing and monitoring. Below is a broad four-step process for a strategy for search engine optimization. Use this as your top-level checklist. Step 1: Target Market Business Analysis Website analysis. Analysis of meta sets/keywords, visible text and code to determine how well you're positioned for search engines. For example, how much code do you have on a page compared to text? Competitive analysis. Examination of content keywords and present engine rankings of competitive websites to determine an effective engine positioning strategy. Pick the top five results in the Google listing results to begin this process. Expand as necessary. Use tools such as Semrush.com and Keywordspy.com. Initial keyword nomination. Development of a prioritized list of targeted search terms related to your customer base and market segment. Begin with this: What would you type into a search engine to find your business website or page? Then, ask your customers! Step 2: Keyword Research and Development Keyword analysis. From nomination, further identify a targeted list of keywords and phrases. Review competitive lists and other pertinent industry sources. Use your preliminary list to determine an indicative number of recent search engine queries and how many websites are competing for each keyword. Prioritize keywords and phrases, plurals, singulars and misspellings. (If search users commonly misspell a keyword, you should identify and use it). Please note that Google will try to correct the term when searching, so use this with care. Baseline ranking assessment. You need to understand where you are now in order to accurately assess your future rankings. Keep a simple Excel sheet to start the process. Check weekly to begin. As you get more comfortable, check every 30 to 45 days. You should see improvements in website traffic, a key indicator of progress for your keywords. Some optimizers will say that rankings are dead. Yes, traffic and conversions are more important, but we use rankings as an indicator. Goals and Objectives. Clearly define your objectives in advance so you can truly measure your ROI from any programs you implement. Start simple, but don’t skip this step. Example: You may decide to increase website traffic from a current baseline of 100 visitors a day to 200 visitors over the next 30 days. Or you may want to improve your current conversion rate of one percent to two in a specified period. You may begin with top-level, aggregate numbers, but you must drill down into specific pages that can improve products, services, and business sales. Step 3: Content Optimization and Submission Create page titles. Keyword-based titles help establish page theme and direction for your keywords. Create meta tags. Meta description tags can influence click-throughs but aren't directly used for rankings. (Google doesn't use the keywords tag anymore.) Place strategic search phrases on pages. Integrate selected keywords into your website source code and existing content on designated pages. Make sure to apply a suggested guideline of one to three keywords/phrases per content page and add more pages to complete the list. Ensure that related words are used as a natural inclusion of your keywords. It helps the search engines quickly determine what the page is about. A natural approach to this works best. In the past, 100 to 300 words on a page was recommended. Many tests show that pages with 800 to 2,000 words can outperform shorter ones. In the end, the users, the marketplace, content and links will determine the popularity and ranking numbers. Develop new sitemaps for Google and Bing. Make it easier for search engines to index your website. Create both XML and HTML versions. An HTML version is the first step. XML sitemaps can easily be submitted via Google and Bing webmaster tools. Submit website to directories (limited use). Professional search marketers don’t submit the URL to the major search engines, but it’s possible to do so. A better and faster way is to get links back to your site naturally. Links get your site indexed by the search engines. However, you should submit your URL to directories such as Yahoo! (paid), Business.com (paid) and DMOZ (free). Some may choose to include AdSense (google.com/adsense) scripts on a new site to get their Google Media bot to visit. It will likely get your pages indexed quickly. Step 4: Continuous Testing and Measuring Test and measure. Analyze search engine rankings and web traffic to determine the effectiveness of the programs you’ve implemented, including assessment of individual keyword performance. Test the results of changes, and keep changes tracked in an Excel spreadsheet, or whatever you're comfortable with. Maintenance. Ongoing addition and modification of keywords and website content are necessary to continually improve search engine rankings so growth doesn’t stall or decline from neglect. You also want to review your link strategy and ensure that your inbound and outbound links are relevant to your business. A blog can provide you the necessary structure and ease of content addition that you need. Your hosting company can typically help you with the setup/installation of a blog. Credits: entrepreneur

  11. How to Optimise Web Pages for AdSense Ads If you are using Google AdSense or any similar program for earning revenue from your web site, then it is high time you realize the secrets of earning high Click Through Rate hence high revenue from your web pages. If you keep following points in mind then you may be able to increase your revenue appreciably. Page Content • AdSense can't interpret images without captions, the value of alt attribute in the img tag and surrounding text, so keep images to a minimum. If you are forced to use images, use proper captions and alt attributes. • A single page of yours should have preferably same content to get more contextually relevant ads. Segregate pages having different content. • Choose keywords on your page carefully. Certain keywords have a higher CPC. Page Size • Just have the right amount of content on your web page. • If you have a large amount of content on any topic, still keep the pages short, because same amount of content spread over smaller pages make room for more pages. More pages mean more place for advertising meaning more revenue. • However, keep in mind that if you breakup any article unnecessarily into more pages, it may be irritating to the viewer. Hence, choose placing your same type of content on different pages carefully e.g. If there is a natural break in the content, or the paragraph heading changes, the content may be spread over different pages. • Keep the page width in mind. Cater for people who still keep their screen size to 800x600 or less. As far as possible, avoid requirement of horizontal scrolling. Refresh Page Content Regularly • Search engines really appreciate new content. Take a bit of effort to provide content that appears new. You may not be able to change the reference content however; you can have RSS feeds from relevant sites to refresh the content regularly. • The idea behind fresh content is that people should keep coming back to your site again and again. Ad Positioning Studies have shown that ad positioning is crucial to content revenue generation. Positioning means the physical position of an ad on a web page, the size of the ad, and also which page(s) on a site carries an ad. • You need to tweak your ads in terms of positioning regularly till a design that gives you the best CTR. • Most studies show that ads positioned above the fold at the beginning of the page do better than ads lower on a page as the people don't have to scroll down to read down your Ads. • One major positioning issue is context. Position your ads in such a way that they are contextually relevant and generate a high revenue. • Donot overload pages with Ads. Ad Style There is no secret formula to tell you that which AdSense color or color pallete will work best. Results are different for different sites and experimenting and monitoring the results may give the best option. You can chose two options that you can choose: • Use the color palette to match your site, this way, some users may click on the ads because they think they are part of your site, not ads. Click here to see an example. • Use a color choice that starkly contrasts with your site. Your ads will be more noticeable, and thus it is more likely that they may be clicked. Click here to see an example. The end point is, you will have to constantly tweak your ads in terms of positioning and placement. If you can track your ads, nothing like it as you will be able to know which ads and pages are giving you a higher revenue so that you can use similar templates for other pages. 12. There’s no question that social media is a powerful marketing tool. Of the world's 7.2 billion population there is 2 billion that have some form of social media account. With that being said using social media as a marketing tool for your business is too good of an opportunity to miss. However, social media is a storm of memes, viral videos and cats doing stupid things. So we need to create different types of content to fit the various types of platforms and opportunities to provide exposure. Therefore, regardless of content there are a few key points on maximising your social media opportunities. 1. Quality is key. When considering your target audience, going big may appear better on paper. However, collecting a large following that doesn’t interact with your brand is less effective than a smaller following that contribute and promote the brand. It’s much more beneficial to have 1,000 active contributors instead of 10,000 who visit the site once and forget their login details. 2. Simplicity and Elegance Focus on your brand or product and you will find that your social media campaign will be drowned in a sea of crazy cats or Harambe memes. The real attention should be paid to creating solid relationships with other users. Another point here is if you are pushing your page and product, people will take a very dim view on spamming this way. Adding value to your content is determined by the notoriety a post gets the more people talk the more reach and exposure your brand gets. Social media users get tired and frankly annoyed by the hard sell. Create context to your content. If your company sells software, write a post about the problems it solves and the benefits it brings. Here value has been created because it is of use to your connections. 3. Audience Engagement is Key! Audiences on social media are always ready to voice their thoughts and opinions on comment threads its very common place especially on controversial posts or content that deals with world issues. Using tools like polls, questions and surveys within social campaigns. Using our software company analogy asking them their most frustrating computer problems and they’ll engage fully with the brand as everyone loves a good moan. 4. Images are good! Having a persuasive argument in text is fundamental. However, an intriguing image draws the reader. Always find a photo that is appropriate to your content as it’ll attract attention and engagement from your followers. To increase its effect a catch quote from within the content may catch a few wandering eyes, long enough to draw them in. 5. Complaint and negativity management With positivity always comes negativity, and social media is rife with keyboard warriors. While you feel that negative comments will eviscerate any rapport with your audience, you should respond swiftly and politely. Offering an apology and solving the problem is the best way to manage this. However, if the comment is abusive then you may delete and report it as appropriate. Showing you care is a good way to increase your rapport and show the business operates maturely and in good faith. 6. A long game is a good game! Success definitely doesn’t form overnight. There are other companies with larger advertising budgets and many more minions to slave over their social media campaigns trying to occupy the same space as you. However, don’t give up! Employing the right strategy and delivering the valuable content in the right places will get your company noticed.
